Graphitons is an independent studio run by Ina Salarich (also Marina Colell), with a focus on handcrafted visuals and publications for projects around ecology, music and art. Oscillating between the Netherlands and Catalonia, Ina teaches graphic design and deep ecology to international masters students at Bau, Barcelona, and also pigment-making with plants in her dye garden in The Hague.
The working methodology of Graphitons is based on Artisanal Intelligence, the notion that what starts in our brains as ideas, concepts and messages is better channeled into visuals when it goes through the body, when it is made with the hands. Graphitons practices embodied design and shies away from mega digital, flat, artificial intelligence-driven processes.
In collaboration with creative strategist Carlie Fishgold, Graphitons explores alternative design practices for the denizens of this planet, a regenerative society and an abundance mindset. We invite clients and projects that align with our focus.
Ina has a knack for unraveling what’s tangled and finding clarity: be it words, concepts or images. She works weekly across four languages:
7+ years Masters teacher at BAU University
— MA in Design Research: Embodied class exploring the students' relationship between their design practice and deep ecology.
— MA in Graphic Communication: Guiding students through a (decentralised) History of Graphic Design, Typography and Editorial design.
— MA in Digital Contents Creation: Applied Storytelling for brands.
— Finalist at Premio Crema, for emerging talents in graphic design.
— High Potential at the Art Directors Club of Europe.
Intrigued by the world of coding, Ina learned basic web coding so that she could create websites to look exactly how she wanted. She creates special hand-coded websites.
This website is a living proof of it, hand-coded from scratch by Graphitons. Here are some others: Can Bonamic | Keep Moving Method | Elena Tarrats
A deep fascination for the workings of our universe drove Ina to conduct research on quantum phsyics, more specifically on String Theory. She has developed two projects about her findings: Symphony of the Cosmos (Gaudeamus Projecta Award) and Dance of the Cosmos.
